It’s A Girl! May 26

For those of you who didn’t see my announcement on Twitter (@Midnite592) or on Facebook (family only), baby #2 that is due the end of October is another girl! I’ve been doing so much daydreaming and window shopping (I dragged the husband to Babies R Us as soon as we were done with the ultrasound ;)) that I haven’t made the announcement on the blog. So there it is, another girl for the family! I welcome any and all suggestions for decorating, organizing or just handling 2 girls. šŸ˜€

Now on to our “regularly” scheduled programming, 5QF with Mama M!

1. Do you apologize to your kid(s)?
If I do something wrong, yes. And sometimes if her feelings are hurt because I told her no for whatever reason, because I AM sorry it upsets her, but that won’t change the outcome.

2. What color are your nails right now?
Fingernails are always au naturale. They take such a beating it’s not worth my time to do more than trim them. My toenails have been every color under the sun, and are currently a glittery rust/gold combination.

3. When you were growing up, how difficult was it for you to stay home from school sick? (As in, did you have to vomit or just say “I don’t feel good”.)
If I stayed home sick, I had to go to the doctor. And even if I went to the doctor, it often meant I’d be home alone afterward, and that doesn’t go over well with me. I prefer people to be around in case I decide to kick the bucket. Yes, I’m being overly dramatic. šŸ˜‰ So unless there was vomiting, I suffered through school.

4. When is the last time you bought a new comforter for your bed?
We upgraded to a king size bed when we moved into this house 3.5 years ago, so there had to be a new comforter. Is it sad that now that it’s time to replace that one (the cats have beaten it up), I’m seriously considering buying the exact same one? I really like it and sleep with it all the time…

5. Favorite website(s)?
Ummm… my WoW guild message board? Various WoW gear and dps sites? Google? Target, Publix, Amazon, WDW. I think those are my most visited types of sites.

Pregnancy Update May 22

I’ve seen a couple other bloggers do this (most recently Joanna) and thought I’d give it a whirl. I’m always looking for inspiration for posts so that they might be interesting to read. šŸ˜‰

18 Weeks

*How far along?: 18 weeks

*Total weight gain: Approximately 3 pounds. Don’t be jealous, I gained a ton of weight at the end of my first pregnancy. My time will come.

*How big is baby?: Sweet Potato (Average size: 5.6 in, 6.7 oz)

*Sleep?: I find myself waking every couple hours for no apparent reason. No extra bathroom trips so far.

*Best moment this week?: The fabulous morning I had with my daughter on Thursday. I baked blueberry muffins, which she loved, and she amused herself while I did a few chores. She’d always been very independent – until I got pregnant. šŸ˜‰

*Movement?: I’m starting to feel like the baby is a fish and I’m the fish bowl. Whenever I’m still I can feel flutters.

*Food cravings?: None now. First trimester it was potatoes.

*Labor signs?: No, thankfully.

*Belly button in or out?: In

*What I miss: The energy and ease of movement I had before I got pregnant. I really didn’t realize how good it had gotten until it was gone.

*What Iā€™m looking forward to: My gender ultrasound on Wednesday!!!

The Usual 5QF May 19

If you don’t know the drill, visit Mama M for details…

1. Do you and your spouse go to bed at the same time?
Rarely. He likes being the first to arrive at work because then he can get actual work done before others arrive, so he’s usually in bed by 10. I only need 8 hours of sleep and my daughter sleeps until at least 8am, so I go to bed somewhere around midnight.

2. A question for the ladies…What kind of facial hair do you like on your man?
None, or where it’s *just* long enough to not be scratchy.

3. What’s the worst vacation you’ve ever taken?
I’ve never had a horrible vacation. *knocks on wood* The closest thing to a bad vacation I can recall was the last few weeks leading up to my first cruise. My anxiety issues had come out in force, and there were days I wanted to do nothing but sleep. But I pushed through, and my anxiety issues have been improving ever since.

4. What’s the first-ever blog you followed?
Ummm… I’m not sure. Both my husband and a real life friend had blogs when I started, so I’m sure they were up there. And I know I borrowed a lot of their favorites to follow at first.

5. Do you enjoy amusement parks?
I LOVE amusement parks! I’ve been a passholder at both Universal and Disney despite a serious dislike of roller coasters. You just can’t beat the atmosphere, the sights, and the junk food! šŸ˜‰

5QF to Inspire Some Blogging May 13

Look! A post! I do remember my blog. šŸ˜‰ A quick update before the main event. Shortly after my last post my husband and I both had a serious allergy attack or cold and spent the next several days bordering on miserable. Other than a slight bit of stuffiness, our daughter seemed to come through unaffected. Until yesterday when she started with this odd cough. Since today is Friday and I believe doctors go to school longer to become pediatricians for a reason, I decided to go ahead and take my daughter in. She was the happiest kid in the sick waiting room, bouncing around and happily munching on raisins. Then she was taken back and they took her temperature. 100 degrees. Wait, what? My kid has a low grade fever? When did THAT happen? So we proceeded through the exam and found out that she has a sinus infection and will need antibiotics for the next few days. The cough is actually starting to bug her now, but I think it will clear quickly.

Trust your instincts people.

Now, on to the main event. If you’re interested in learning more about 5QF with Mama M, click here.

1. Tube socks, calf socks, crew, ankle, none? ([email protected]_Blog)
Ankle socks, although I very very rarely ever wear socks. Living in Florida and being a SAHM, I can spend most or the year in flipflops or casual flats. I only need socks for camping/hiking and going to the gym. šŸ™‚

2. Was your child’s (children’s) name a mutual decision or was it a debate? If you don’t have children, do you plan on giving your spouse a say, or do you have a name you MUST have, regardless if your other half likes it or not?! (From @momtodh)
Neither one of us had a name we HAD to have, although there were a few we could agree NOT to have. Our first child’s name was a mutual decision, although I did insist on a more unique spelling. We don’t yet know the gender of our second child, but do have one name picked out already as a possibility.

3. What is your favorite type of weather? ([email protected])
I like it warm enough during the day to hit the beach (mid-70s?) but cool enough at night for a light jacket and a fire outside in the fire pit (upper 50s?). This roughly translates to spring and fall in Florida, and both are very very short.

4. If left to your own devices, what time would you wake up every day? (From Sandy at “Pardon My Dust”)
If I wake up any later than 9:30, I feel like I’m wasting the day. Occasionally we’ll be up really late and sleep past that point, but since the birth of our first child, these instances have become increasingly rare.

5. Have you bought your cemetery plots yet? (From Pam at “Troop Petrie”)
No. We’ve only just begun writing wills and that’s been a difficult step for us. We’re still young enough to think we’re invincible (even when we know we’re not), but a plan has to be in place for our kids if something does happen.

An Update May 05

As a few of you have noticed, I’ve been absent from the blog. I announced a few weeks ago that I was pregnant and then got caught up in the Ultimate Blog Party festivities. After that, I disappeared.

I wish I could regale you with tales from world travels or fabulous craft or cooking projects that I was doing, but I can’t. The first trimester of this pregnancy kept me in my recliner either pleading for the nausea and heartburn to go away or sleeping because I was simply unable to keep my eyes open. It took everything I had just to get my daughter and I dressed, fed, and out to whatever activity she wanted to do for the day.

I am now 15 weeks along, and luckily I’m starting to feel more like myself again. Or, as much like myself as I’ll be feeling over these next transitional months. I can finally eat and, while still tired, I’m functional again. With some help from the husband, we might even find the kitchen underneath the piles of junk mail, snack wrappers, empty Diet Coke cans and water bottles that have taken over. Hopefully the living room can be found underneath the sea of toys as well. I have hope, as well as a pseudo birthday party on Saturday night and Mother’s Day lunch to help me push through.

Which leads me to my good news! My birthday was this past Monday and my husband’s is coming up on Sunday. I’m claiming this past weekend’s camping trip to Faver-Dykes State Park and St. Augustine as part of the birthday festivities, although the date was purely coincidental. That, followed by a small celebration Monday night with a giant red velvet cupcake and an even smaller celebration Tuesday night are really helping to maintain the party atmosphere throughout the week. I’ve always claimed as many days as possible to celebrate my birthday, and starting with our first cruise back in 2003, the husband and I have tried to link our birthdays together for the ultimate celebration. We haven’t done as well since our daughter was born as in previous years, but I’m really hoping to turn that around next year when we celebrate a milestone. šŸ˜‰

So there it is, that’s what I’ve been up to. Thank you to the few of you who have stuck around while I’ve been away. I’m hoping to update more frequently again now that the first trimester is behind me, we’re in the midst of birthday celebrations, and my first homegrown tomato is about to be ripe enough to eat!
